Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.

The collection at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath has developed over the years through the generous donation of artworks by artists and art patrons. The museum currently has thirteen galleries. The first gallery showcases the artworks of Nicholas Roerich and his son Svetoslav Nikolayvich. There is a huge collection of Krishna Reddy’s work, donated by the artist himself along with H.K. Kejriwal’s donation of paintings and sculptures of early Nationalist artists such as Gaganendranath Tagore, Abanindranath Tagore, Ramkinkar Baij, Benode Behari Mukherjee, Jamini Roy, and Amrita Shergil. Some of the other featured artists are Laxma Goud, S.H. Raza, Anjolie Ela Menon, and G. R. Iranna. There is a gallery that displays works of art that received the royal patronage of the Mysore court and another gallery that houses string-puppets, embroideries, and paintings from the various states of India.
