Description

The Indian Museum founded in 1814 is the earliest and the largest multipurpose museum not only in the Indian subcontinent but also in the Asia-Pacific region. Out of all the sections in the museum, the most talked about section is the archeology section. This section displays sculptures from Maurya and Sunga periods, architectural remains from Bharhut and Bodh Gaya, sculptures from Gandhara School of Art and from the Kushana, Gupta, Pala-Sena, Chandella, Hoyasala, Chola and Pallava periods. It also includes display of some South East Asian sculptures.
