The department of Zoology Sacred Heart College, Thevara, also known as the SH College or Thevara College, maintains the magnificent Fr Gabriel Zoology Museum which opens a wide arena of knowledge for any life science enthusiast.

This spectacular museum was established in the year 1952, the same year as the establishment of the department, and has a collection of over 3,000 specimens. The museum is named after its founder, Padma Bhushan Fr Gabriel Chiramel, an Indian Syro-Malabar Catholic Roman Catholic priest, educationist, zoologist, author and social reformer, known for his services in the fields of education, health and human welfare.

The specimens on display were collected from India and abroad. The most notable specimens include duck-billed platypus, echidna (spiny anteater) and entire skeletons of a blue whale and an elephant. The department has five lecture halls and three well-equipped laboratories. There are also three full-fledged research laboratories. The department library has a collection of about 3,000 books relevant to the subject. The museum offers endless opportunity for research.
