Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.

This Ethnographic museum is a part of Assam Institute of Research for Tribals and Scheduled Castes (AIRTSC). It was established in the year 1977 and houses about 620 artefacts pertaining to the socio-cultural life of different communities of Assam. It showcases a rich collection of cane and bamboo objects, textiles of different tribes, musical instruments, utilitarian objects, sacred objects, hunting and fishing implements, and an ethnic jewellery section of northeastern tribes. The dioramas of Karbi, Tiwa, Mising, Dimasa, and Bodo Kachari tribes reflect the golden heritage of the state. There are a few publications on the museum artefacts.
